Health Minister signals wider changes to NHS Wales services

Health Minister Mabon ap Gwynfor has called on NHS leaders to work more closely across organisational boundaries to improve services and reduce health inequalities.

Speaking at the Welsh NHS Confederation’s annual conference, the minister said that growing demand, an ageing population and increasingly complex healthcare needs required changes in how services are organised.

The Welsh Government will begin a period of engagement with health boards and care leaders to develop a shared long-term vision.

Why it matters: Greater integration between health boards, social care and community services could affect how patients access treatment and support. It may also influence the future organisation of services, particularly in rural areas.

Status: A policy direction and engagement exercise, not an announced NHS reorganisation. No hospital closures, new service boundaries, workforce numbers or additional funding were specified.
