What is Talking Wales?
Talking Wales is a community-led public interest news project with a simple aim: to help people understand what is happening in Wales, why it matters and how they can have a say.
Decisions made in the Senedd, Westminster and council chambers affect our everyday lives — from schools and health services to housing, transport and jobs. Following those decisions, understanding who is responsible should be straightforward.
Talking Wales aims to make that information more accessible through journalism that goes beyond the headlines, explains the context and asks questions on behalf of communities.
News shaped by communities
The project brings together plans for radio, podcasts, online reporting, newsletters and social video, with Welsh and English-language content. Its approach puts local voices and experiences at the centre of coverage, giving people opportunities to help shape the stories being told.
That means listening to what communities need to know, explaining how decisions affect them and following up on the promises made by those in power.
A different ownership model
Talking Wales is organised as a Community Benefit Society. It exists to benefit the communities it serves, with members having a voice in its direction through a one-member, one-vote structure.
This community ownership supports its wider purpose: building an independent news service rooted in Wales and accountable to the people who use it.
Why it matters
Reliable public interest news helps people make informed choices, access services and hold decision-makers to account. It also helps communities recognise shared challenges and explore possible solutions.
Talking Wales starts from the belief that everyone in Wales deserves access to that information — wherever they live and whichever language they speak.
