Pembrokeshire has recorded 72 affected premises, Gwynedd 42 and Ceredigion 36. The figures cover the 2026–27 bluetongue season, beginning in July, and are not counts of individual infected animals.
For comparison, 24 cases were confirmed in Wales during the entire previous 2025–26 season.
Why it matters: Bluetongue can cause serious illness in sheep and cattle, creating veterinary costs, animal welfare concerns and financial pressure on farms. The figures warrant greater attention to the scale of the outbreak and the effectiveness of vaccination and control measures.
