Urdd Eisteddfod highlights the role of Welsh in young people’s lives

The Urdd National Eisteddfod took place on Anglesey from 23 to 29 May, providing a platform for Welsh-language culture, creativity and learning among children and young people.

The week also included public-service activities under the More Than Just Words programme, linking Welsh-language skills with health and social care careers. The events brought together public bodies, training providers and community organisations. While a cultural festival cannot by itself resolve unequal access to Welsh-medium services, it gives a practical picture of the language being used across education, work and community life.

Why it matters: A public-interest follow-up would examine how opportunities to learn Welsh translate into everyday use and better Welsh-language services.
