The Planning (Wales) Act and associated consequential legislation received Royal Assent on 27 April, marking a major consolidation of Welsh planning law.
The Acts brought together an existing body of planning legislation into a more coherent bilingual framework. Consolidation aims to make rules easier to find, interpret and apply, but is not the same as changing the underlying policy or automatically approving more development. The implementation programme would determine when the new framework is used operationally.
Why it matters: Clearer law may help residents, developers and councils understand decisions, but housing delivery still depends on planning policy, infrastructure and investment.
