A strengthened NHS Wales complaints process called Listening to People took effect on 1 April, replacing the previous Putting Things Right arrangements.
The new process introduced an early resolution stage and a formal investigation stage, with a stronger emphasis on listening discussions, accessible communication and offers of advocacy. Where appropriate, the framework can include assessment for financial redress of up to £50,000. Officials described it as the largest change to NHS complaints handling in nearly fifteen years.
Why it matters: The key public-interest measure will be whether patients obtain clearer explanations, faster resolution and learning that results in safer care.
