The Welsh Government has approved an independent Wales-specific review of the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision represents a significant policy change following years of calls from bereaved families for dedicated Welsh scrutiny.
The Cabinet Minister for Government Effectiveness and the Constitution, Dafydd Trystan Davies, is expected to make a statement to the Senedd next month.
Why it matters: The review could examine decisions taken within devolved institutions in considerably greater detail, including care-home policies, public-health interventions and coordination between government and public bodies.
Its independence, terms of reference and investigative powers will determine whether it offers substantially different scrutiny from the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.
