The Senedd has approved the Welsh Government’s revised Second Supplementary Budget for 2026–27, following the rejection of an earlier version in July.

£354m
Including £60m for ALN
The approved package includes £145 million for NHS Wales, £60 million for Additional Learning Needs, £55 million for childcare, £40 million for school maintenance and £20 million for social housing, alongside other allocations.
The £60 million ALN allocation follows negotiations between the Plaid Cymru Welsh Government and Welsh Labour.
Of that sum, £56 million is intended for schools and local authorities, £2.5 million for further education and £1.5 million for work on longer-term sustainability.
Why it matters: The vote authorises significant in-year adjustments to public spending. The immediate issue is how quickly funding reaches schools, councils and NHS services, and whether it produces measurable improvements.
Status: Approved spending, not merely a proposal. However, the £60 million ALN increase is for this financial year; an equivalent recurring annual allocation has not been confirmed
