Three children were taken to hospital after a school bus collided with a railway bridge in Newport yesterday morning.
Gwent Police confirmed that emergency services were called to Tregare Street at approximately 7:45am.
The collision involved a double-decker school bus and a railway bridge.
Police said the children’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The road was closed following the collision, while rail services between Newport and Hereford faced disruption.
Why it matters: The incident raises questions about school transport safety, vehicle routing, bridge-height restrictions and the arrangements used by operators carrying children.
It is particularly relevant to local authorities commissioning school transport services.
