NHS Wales workforce strategy: ministers outline longer-term approach

Health Minister Mabon ap Gwynfor delivered a Senedd statement on the development of a long-term NHS Wales workforce strategy.

The work is being developed alongside the Government’s broader vision for health and care, with the intention of connecting workforce planning to future service delivery.

Why it matters: Staffing capacity affects waiting times, service accessibility, recruitment costs and the ability to maintain healthcare provision across Wales.

Long-term planning is particularly important for specialist services where training new professionals can take several years.

Status: Strategy development update. The statement should not be interpreted as evidence that additional staff have already been recruited or that workforce shortages have been resolved.
