Newly publicised Transport for Wales workforce figures highlight the continued under-representation of women in transport occupations.

The Welsh Government says the proportion of women among new Transport for Wales apprentices rose from 14.3% to 42.9% between 2022 and 2023, while the number of female train drivers increased from 54 to 76.
Deputy Transport Minister Mark Hooper has met senior Transport for Wales representatives to discuss recruitment and retention.
Why it matters: Transport organisations face long-term workforce and skills requirements. Improving access to training and employment could widen recruitment opportunities and address occupational inequalities.
Status: Workforce evidence and an update on existing initiatives, rather than a new funded recruitment programme. Some figures refer to 2022–23 and should not be presented as current 2026 workforce totals.
