The Welsh Government has announced £2.1 million of support intended to help small and medium-sized businesses adopt artificial intelligence responsibly and improve productivity.
The package includes £600,000 for Business Wales to develop awareness and adoption support, alongside £500,000 for AI work in tourism and events. Ministers argued that smaller firms need access to expertise if new technologies are not to widen the productivity gap between large and small employers. The funding was an announcement of support, not proof that businesses had already achieved measurable gains.
Why it matters: An independent assessment should track how many businesses participate, what they actually change and whether productivity gains outweigh costs.
