UK Government announces digital and technology jobs plan

The UK Government has published a Digital and Technologies Jobs Plan, aiming to support approximately 200,000 entry-level opportunities over ten years, including apprenticeships.

The plan seeks to improve access to careers in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software and other technology industries.

Crucially, the document acknowledges that skills policy is devolved and says the UK Government will work with Welsh ministers on arrangements appropriate to Wales.

Why it matters: Wales could benefit from UK-wide employer commitments and digital-sector investment, but the practical arrangements for Welsh colleges, apprenticeships and training providers remain to be agreed.

Status: A UK-wide strategic ambition, not an allocation of 200,000 posts to Wales or confirmed new funding for Welsh providers.
