Denbighshire County Council held a Cabinet meeting yesterday, with proposals under consideration to use up to £5.5 million remaining from the Central Rhyl Coastal Defence project.
The money would support improvements around the former Children’s Village site.
The council’s proposals envisage a Waterfront Park, with improved pedestrian access, landscaping, gardens and flexible public space.
The council has acknowledged that the funding is linked to coastal-defence works and is therefore subject to restrictions on how it can be spent.
Why it matters: The proposal concerns the use of substantial public funding and the regeneration of a prominent town-centre location.
It raises questions about the relationship between coastal protection funding, regeneration objectives and long-term maintenance costs.
