New coastal flooding risk for five Welsh counties today and tomorrow

NRW’s latest available five-day assessment warns that widespread coastal or tidal flooding is possible along parts of western and southwestern Wales on Monday and Tuesday.

Five local authority areas are identified as having a low flood risk:

Local authority Monday 26 October Tuesday 27 October
Carmarthenshire Low Low
Ceredigion Low Low
Gwynedd Low Low
Anglesey Low Low
Pembrokeshire Low Low

The forecast warns that properties, roads and other land could be affected, potentially disrupting travel.

NRW’s live warning service continues to list coastal flood alerts, including Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea Bay and parts of Cardigan Bay.

Why it matters: Coastal communities are facing a further period of risk before recovery from the weekend’s storms is complete.

The distinction between the two risk assessments is important: a low flood-risk classification does not mean flooding is expected everywhere in the affected counties. It indicates that flooding is possible and preparations may be necessary.

Status: Forecast risk, not confirmed new flooding. The five-day forecast was last updated at 10:30am on Sunday; a further assessment is expected later this morning.
