The Welsh Government have extended three housing programmes until the end of the 2026–27 financial year, covering new-home purchases, support for struggling mortgage holders and the renovation of empty properties.
Help to Buy – Wales was expected to support up to 400 additional households. The Empty Homes Grant could help return up to 300 neglected properties to use, while Help to Stay continued support for qualifying homeowners under mortgage pressure. These were programme projections, not completed housing outcomes.
Why it matters: The schemes raise questions about how public money should be divided between new construction, protecting existing households and returning empty homes to use.
