A significant Welsh Government consultation announced on Friday 23 October proposes an undergrounding-first approach for new 11–132kV electricity lines.
The proposal follows the Government’s commitment to end the use of large steel lattice pylons for electricity lines within devolved planning powers.
Why it matters: The policy could affect the cost and speed of electricity network expansion, renewable energy connections, landscapes and communities hosting new infrastructure.
This is a consultation, not an adopted planning requirement.
