I relaunched the Talking Wales website with a focus on Welsh public-interest news.
Public interest news in Wales is vital for democracy; when people know and understand what’s happening, Welsh society benefits.
Many public interest news stories never get beyond the digital boundaries of the body publishing the information; public interest news just doesn’t generate the clicks required to make publishing it worthwhile.
As a solo operation, I’m making use of AI to help in the production and sharing of public interest news from a Welsh perspective. By using a selection of trusted sources, I’m able to surface news and information and prepare short pieces that can be published on the Talking Wales website and shared online.
AI also helps in the generation of images to accompany articles where necessary.
The use of AI requires human intervention to verify content surfaced, but as a tool in the production process, it has huge potential.
Questions remain about its sustainability and trustworthiness, but I’m hoping Talking Wales can show the positives AI can bring when it comes to keeping the Welsh public informed.
