The Welsh Government has confirmed details of the Welsh stage of the 2027 Tour de France.
The race will travel from Welshpool to Cardiff on Sunday 4 July 2027, featuring eight categorised climbs and an intermediate sprint at Llandrindod Wells.
The Government has also announced that 2027 will be designated Wales’s Year of Cycling.
An existing £4.5 million fund is intended to improve cycling facilities and routes.
Why it matters: The event could generate substantial visitor spending and international exposure, particularly for communities along the route.
However, the public-interest questions concern the cost of hosting, policing, road closures, public expenditure and the long-term economic benefits.
Status: The route is confirmed. The £4.5 million fund was previously announced and is not additional funding unveiled yesterday.
