Senedd committees resume scrutiny on constitutional, media and Welsh-language issues

The Senedd’s Culture, Communications, Cymraeg and Sport Committee is scheduled to meet today, with its current work including scrutiny of priorities for the Seventh Senedd and the Legislative Consent Memoranda for the UK Sporting Events Bill. The Senedd’s Legislation Committee is also due to meet, continuing scrutiny of UK Bills affecting devolved responsibilities, including cyber-security and public-office accountability measures. Why it matters for Wales: These committees are among the main mechanisms for testing whether UK-wide legislation respects Welsh competence and whether the new 96-member Senedd is using its expanded capacity for effective scrutiny. The meetings themselves are procedural, but their reports can influence the Welsh Government’s consent decisions and the practical operation of devolved powers.
