£17m home energy programme targets fuel poverty

A £17 million package has been announced to improve home energy efficiency and address fuel poverty, including support for households reliant on expensive off-grid heating.

The funding was divided between £8 million for social-housing retrofit, £5 million for the Nest scheme and £4 million for new area-based work. Ministers pointed to examples where insulation, solar generation, batteries and modern heating systems had cut household energy costs. Those examples should not be assumed to represent the savings available to every household.

Why it matters: Reporting should examine eligibility, geographic targeting, the number of completed improvements and independently measured changes in bills.
